Our 2011 actions
FSC® AND PEFC CERTFICATION FOR ALTAVIA EUROPE
On 25th October 2010, Altavia became the first communication group to obtain FSC® and PEFC certification for all its European Business Units. Over 140 commercial and manufacturing managers in more than 10 countries have been fully trained in responsible paper use – with more to come.
“Obtaining both FSC® and PEFC certification for Altavia Europe would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of our managers in all our European business units. They created a dynamic that united their teams around a meaningful and common goal.”
Anne-Lise Spagnolo, Sustainability Practice Manager, Altavia Group
ALTAVIA’S NEW ECOPUBLISHING INITIATIVE
As part of our hands-on approach to sustainable development, Altavia has launched an innovative, all-encompassing Ecopublishing® service to reduce the carbon footprint of printed media.
Our Ecopublishing® initiative involves a rigorous set of ecological criteria to minimize the environmental impact of our productions during each phase of the graphic chain:
-
Use recycled paper or paper generated from responsably-managed forests with FSC® or PEFC certification
-
Employ production methods that generate Co2 emissions equal or inferior to 1320keqCOe/t (ADEME)
- Select printers engaged in a sustainable development action plant (no toxic products, responsible waste, water and energy management…)
- Ensure that printed documents are recyclable (no varnish, metallic or fluorescent inks…)
For Altavia, these criteria are the first step in a movement towards 100% eco-responsible commercial communications and will be revised annually by a dedicated community of clients, partners and collaborators in line with new developments.
EUROPE-WIDE RESULTS FOR CARBOSCAN®
Developed by Altavia in collaboration with Climat Mundi, CarboScan® enables us to calculate the CO2 emissions of printed media and propose a quantifiable optimization strategy to clients. In 2010, we launched a large-scale operation to reduce our carbon footprint throughout Europe by starting the deployment of Carboscan® in all our business units.
THE PICARD EXAMPLE
Cutting the Carbon Footprint of its Catalogue
Picard, the French leader in frozen food distribution, wanted to reduce the carbon footprint of its product catalogue – already printed on PEFC certified paper by an Imprim’Vert and ISO 14001 certified printer.
Thanks to CarboScan®, Altavia was able to calculate the CO2 emissions of a selection of FSC and PEFC certified papers, compare them to the original and find one that reduced emissions by 35%.
